October is THE busy month for public service events for Lake County ARES. Here’s what’s going on in the next 5 weeks.

Mount Dora Bicycle Festival (MDBF)

October 14, 15, 16 (Friday, Saturday, Sunday)

Friday  is relatively light with shorter rides offered. Duties will start about 8:00 and conclude by early afternoon.

Saturday   is the BIG day numerous rides including a century ride (100 miles).  Duties start by 7:30AM when the 100 miler begins and a few people may be needed until 6:00PM when the last of the century riders finish.

Sunday   has two ride, one is  60 miles and the other is 40 miles.  These rides tend to be fast as many club riders almost make it a race (it is NOT)  Duties begin at 8:00AM and conclude about noon.

First things first:  I need a volunteer to keep up with the volunteers and the time(s) they are available each day and then help creating a schedule to cover the various rides.  Template forms are available to make this job relatively simple.

Secondarily,  we need volunteers for the days of  the event.  Thursday late afternoon  2 hours (tops) to set up the trailer.  Friday, 7:00 to 5:00.  Saturday 7:00 to 6:00  Sunday 8:00 to noon.  You do not need to volunteer for all of any day.  Just let us know what days you can help and generally the hours you are available.  There is NO restriction on the maximum hours you can work.  Pay rate is the same; no overtime.

I already have a number of people who have volunteered for MDBF.  Let me know (for Now) if you want to help with this event

Great Floridian Triathlon

October 22 (Saturday)

This event is centered at Lake Minneola in Clermont and the 112 mile bicycle route goes north and east toward Sugarloaf Mt and returns to Clermont.  This is the part of the event that we provide safety support.  The long distance riders make two laps of the course.

This event will require volunteers for a period from 8:00AM to 6:00PM.  Again you do not have to volunteer for all day.  You can if you want to.

For the time being I will be the point of contact for this event.

And finally something new

Beef and Boogie

November 4 – 5 (Friday and Saturday)

This event is a food,, beverage (beer) and music festival being put on by the South Sumter Chamber of Commerce. It celebrates the beef industry in Sumter County.  It will be held at the Webster Flea Market / Sumter Fairgrounds.  Information about it is sketchy at present but Sumter ARES is exploring the possibility and asked if any Lake County ARES members are interested.  It will be four hours (plus) Friday evening and approximately 10 hours Saturday (Noon to 10:00PM)  Saturday would be two shifts.     Let me know if you are interested.

Based on the sequence of the events I need responses for 1) MDBF    2) Great Floridian Triathlon    3) Beef and Boogie.

That’s enough for now
